As many as three BJP workers sustained injuries and several vehicles were ransacked in a poll-related violence at Chikiti Notified Area Council (NAC) in Ganjam district during the urban elections on Thursday.

Sources said more than two hundred BJD workers allegedly barged into the Chikiti NAC chairperson candidate Pushpanjali Sethi’s house and went on a rampage.

The BJD workers and supporters allegedly vandalised BJP leader Manoranjan Dyansamantaray’s vehicle and several other bikes, sources in formed.

“The ruling BJD cannot digest our party candidate winning the Patrapur Block chairman post. Fearing their defeat in Chikiti NAC, they have launched the attack,” alleged BJP leader Bhrugu Baxipatra.

“At least three of our party workers were injured in the attack. Even after bringing the matter to the notice of local police station IIC, SP, SDPO and DIG, no action has been taken against the attackers,” Baxipatra alleged.

Notably, polling for the much-awaited Odisha Urban Local Bodies (ULB) polls was held today.

The voting for 106 ULBs and 3 Municipal Corporations in the State began at 8 am and concluded at 5 pm today.

The voters exercised their franchise in 1731 Wards consisting of 3068 booths in 106 ULBs and in 168 Wards consisting of 1407 booths in the three Municipal corporations- BMC, CMC and BeMC.

According to State Election Commission, over 50 per cent voter turnout was reported till 5 pm.
