Hundreds of activists belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha(BJYM) scuffled with the Police when they were stopped from gheraoing the SP office in Berhampur on Friday over demands of the ouster of Captain Dibyashankar Mishra, the MoS (Home) so as to ensure a fair probe in the Mamita Meher murder case.

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) rank officer was reportedly injured in the clashes which erupted when the Police tried to stop the protesters from entering the SP’s office.

As per reports, the protesters hurled eggs, tomatoes and shoes at the Police. Some protesters have also sustained injuries in the scuffle.

Speaking to OTV, BJP leader Bhrugu Baxipatra said, “BJP has been demonstrating since the last 15 days to get justice to Mamita which she deserves. Our demands are to hand over the probe to the CBI and the ouster and the arrest of Minister Mishra.”

“CM Naveen himself is the Cabinet Minister for Home and Mishra is his deputy. They both have conspired to suppress the case by influencing the probe,” Baxipatra alleged.

On the other hand, the District Meher Community in Kalahandi took out a march from Naktiguda square in Bhawanipatna and demonstrated in front of the district SP office demanding Rs 2 Crore compensation for the family of Mamita and the resignation of Minister Dibyashankar Mishra.

Santosh Meher, the Working President of the Meher community said, “We will submit a memorandum to the SP and Collector demanding justice for Mamita and resignation of the Minister.”
