The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced the date for the by-election to the Jharsuguda Assembly seat.

As per the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Rajeev Kumar, the notification for the bypoll will be released on April 13. 

While submission of nominations for the bypoll will continue till April 20, scrutiny of the same will be held on April 21. Nominations for the by-election can be withdrawn till April 24.

Later, on May 10, voting for the assembly constituency will be held and counting of the votes will be done on May 13, informed Kumar.

The bypoll in Jharsuguda was necessitated following the murder of Naba Das on January 29, 2023. It is worth mentioning that even though months have passed, the Odisha Police is yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder.

Date of Issue of Gazette Notification- 13.04.2023 (Thursday) 

Last Date of Making Nominations- 20.04.2023 (Thursday) 

Date for Scrutiny of nominations- 21.04.2023 (Friday) 

Last Date for Withdrawal of candidatures- 24.04.2023 (Monday) 

Date of Poll- 10.05.2023 (Wednesday)

Date of Counting- 13.05.2023 (Saturday)

Date before which election shall be completed- 15.05.2023 (Monday)

Later in the day, the model code of conduct came into effect with the announcement of Jharsuguda bypoll.
