Fissures in the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) seem to be widening with the district president of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) Siman Das forming a 26-member committee without informing the members of the BCJD.

Taking an exception to this move of Das, the disappointed members of the BCJD have launched an agitation. They alleged Das has done this without informing Basta MLA Nityananda Sahoo and other members of the BCJD.

They threatened that they would stage an agitation in front of Naveen Niwas in Bhubaneswar if steps to dismantle the committee are not taken at the earliest.

“We are opposing forming of the committee by Siman Das without informing us. We took up the matter with our MLA but he said he is too not aware of the development,” alleged Laila Dhal, one of the agitating student leaders.

When asked, Basta MLA Sahoo said, “He may have done this being the district president of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD). But I am not aware of the development.”

Asked why he did not confer with the Basta MLA regarding the formation of such a committee, Das said there is no need to ask the MLA.

“Whatever has been done is done for the betterment of the party. And there is no use of agitation. There are around 2000 students reading in the college. All of them can’t be satisfied by offering posts. Those who want to work for the party should contact us and then only we will offer them posts,” said Das.

“If they resort to strike and go against the party line, action against them will definitely be taken,” Das added.

Notably, the infighting in the conch party recently surfaced after rebel BJD leader Rajendra Das filed his nomination papers for the bypoll to Dhamnagar Assembly seat as an independent candidate.
