Sulakhyana Gitanjali Devi, the scion of Dharakote Royal family has been elected as the youngest block chairman of Ganjam district.

The 25-year-old political greenhorn has been voted as the chairman of Dharakote Block Samiti. Sulakhyana, who is the daughter of former MLA of Sanakhemundi, Nandini Devi, will start her political career as the Chairman of the block council.

“I have earned inspiration from my family to serve the people of our area through politics. Though there are many problems in our block, I will try to focus on three main issues -- drinking water facilities, quality education to the people and women empowerment in our area," said Sulakhyana.

Confident that her young age and lack of experience will not be a bottleneck in work, she adds “This is a great opportunity for me to serve the people and learn from the elder statesmen. It will help me to be in a good stead for the future,” she said.

Despite having already secured a strong footing, Sulakhyana is however not sure about her future political prospects.

“I am not looking too far ahead. Right now my focus is to serve the people of our block. Time will tell about my future course of action,” she concluded in her special interaction with OTV.
