Tension ran high at Alinagar under Karada panchayat after several villagers detained a representative of local sarpanch who was allegedly distributing money urging voters to cast vote in favour of BJD in the ensuing Dhamnagar bypoll.

According to sources, the irate villagers also detained eight police officers inclduing Dhamnagar Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Inspector In Charge (IIC) who reportedly had gone to the village to rescue the representative of the Sarpanch.

The representative of the sarpanch had gone to the village to distribute cash to Self Help Groups (SHGs) and allegedly giving envelopes containing Rs 4000 cash to each family in the village, locals claimed adding thay the sarpanch belongs to the ruling party.

However, villagers caught hold of the representative and detained him. On being informed, a police team led by the SDPO and IIC went to rescue him but they were detained by the locals. 

Tension continued to prevail in the village till the last report came in.
