Accusing the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) of distributing money to voters through SHG groups, a delegation of BJP on Sunday met the State Electoral Officer and urged him to take action against those involved in the money distribution.

They accused an SHG woman of being involved in the cash distribution and demanded her arrest.

A team of the saffron party led by Lekhashree Samantsinghar met the CEO and submitted a memorandum in this regard. They warned to sit in protest in front of Bhadrak District Collector’s office and the State Election Commissioner’s office if the woman is not arrested within two days.

“The BJD is trying to pollute the Dhamanagar bypoll. They are trying to break the democratic rules and win votes by distributing money. I met the Election Commissioner and demanded action against the woman that is involved in the money distribution through SHGs. If she is not arrested within two days, we will know that Dhamnagar election was not fought honestly,” said Lekhashree Samantsinghar.

However, BJD Member of Lok Sabha, Manjulata Mandal refuted the allegations and said, “There is no money distribution and the allegations are baseless. CM is emphasising women's empowerment, so our victory in the bypoll is a must.”

Earlier, the BJP had demanded the Chief Electoral Officer to freeze all the accounts of all the SHGs in Dhamnagar Assembly constituency.
