While the 75th anniversary of Independence is being celebrated as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav across the nation, the grand old Congress party is celebrating Azadi Ki Gaurav Yatra with its leaders covering a distance of 75 km a day on foot. The yatra will continue till August 14.

As part of this yatra, a large number of party leaders and workers, led by OPCC President Sarat Pattanayak on Tuesday took out a rally from Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar. The rally marched through various locations on the main road while the participants made patriotic slogans.

Pattanayak said the yatra is being observed in all districts to make people, particularly the present generation, aware of the party’s contribution in achieving Independence and the development thereafter. They should know the sacrifices made by several Congress leaders in the struggle for Independence.

“The Congress party under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi freed India from British rule. In order to immortalise the tradition of the Congress, the Pradesh Congress Committee is organising ‘padyatras’ in all districts, covering a distance of 75 kilometres a day,” Pattanayak added.

Among others, former OPCC chief Prasad Harichandan and senior leader and Jatni MLA Suresh Routray took part in the ‘padyatra’.
