A day after Congress’s Cuttack- Barbati MLA Mohammed Moquim created a flutter by voting in favour of NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu, the senior Congress leadership in Odisha stated that the matter had been brought to the notice of the party high command.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Sarat Pattanayak on Tuesday said the high command is aware of the incident.

“We have already apprised the matter to the party high command. We have sought a report which will be sent to the high command and it will take an appropriate decision at the right time,” said Pattanayak.

Pattanayak further said every MLA has a right to vote as per their conscience. But when party high command has issued a direction, all in the Congress party abide by it.

Senior leader Suresh Routray said, “Whatever happened was not right. Any decision on the matter depends on Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and PCC president.”

Congress MLA Mohammed Moqium today clarified that he has not committed anything wrong by voting for Draupadi Murmu. He said, “I will discuss the matter in Congress forum. I am with the Congress ideology.”

On Monday, Moquim had created a flutter after claiming to have voted for NDA’s Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu by going by his conscience as she was the daughter of the soil.

“It’s my personal decision as I listened to my heart which guided me to do something for the soil and that’s why voted for her (Draupadi Murmu),” Moquim told yesterday.
