Annoyed by the rising inflation and steady rise in the prices of essential commodities, members of the Student Congress and Youth Congress hurled eggs at the carcade of Union Minister of State (MoS) for Tribal Affairs and Jal Shakti, Bishweswar Tudu, when he was travelling to Naugaon in Jagatsinghpur on Tuesday.
As per reports, the Congress members launched the egg attack at two places near Mundhala and near Alanahata in the district. Besides, they also showed black flag to the Minister as a mark of protest for the price rise and the incident at Lakhimpur Kheri that saw vehicles mowing down protesting farmers on the road.
Speaking to reporters, Student Congress leader Sunil Matia said, “We resorted to egg attack and black flag show to protest the indiscriminate rise in prices of essential commodities in the Country. The BJP government at the Centre and Uttar Pradesh are also responsible for shielding a Union Minister and his son involved in the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri,” Matia alleged.
Downplaying the egg attack, Minister Tudu said, “This has become a habit of Congress workers. Whenever the source of their ill-gotten income gets plugged by the Centre, they resort to these kinds of activities.”
“In this case, they are agitated because the new Farm Laws have dried up their illicit income which they were getting by harassing the farmers. I am least perturbed by it,” he said.
The Minister has been visiting various places in the State to review the spending of Central funds allocated for water resource development and Tribal affairs.
