Hundreds of activists belonging to the Odisha Chhatra (Students’) Congress on Tuesday scuffled with police in Bhubaneswar while taking out a rally to gherao the State Assembly over the alleged job scam in Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC).

They also staged the demonstration demanding the arrest of Law Minister Pratap Jena for his alleged involvement in the brutal killing of two BJP leaders at Mahanga in January this year.

According to reports, the Odisha Chhatra Congress members took out the rally from Congress Bhawan protesting against the alleged OSSC scam. However, police stopped them near Lower PMG area when they were marching towards the Assembly. The protestors then tried to break the barricades and attempted to march towards the Assembly that led to a face-off between the police and Student Congress members. Police have detained few activists.

The protestors alleged that the State government is protecting the OSSC Chairman, member and other important officials while taking action against a lower rung employee who was arrested by the Vigilance for possessing disproportionate assets.

“The OSSC Chairman, members and all those involved in the Commission during the last 21 years’ job scam should be brought under a specific probe,” demanded a protestor.

It is worth mentioning that earlier on August 2, hundreds of activists of Chhatra Congress had clashed with police near the OSSC office in Bhubaneswar demanding an investigation into the recruitment of candidates following the arrest of Biranchi Sahu, private secretary to an OSSC member.
