The notion that the ruling party always wins bypolls was busted in Dhamnagar, said BJP State Kisan Morcha President, Pradip Purohit on Friday.

Speaking to OTV, Purohit said the recently-concluded bypoll at Dhamnagar proved that it is not necessary that the ruling party will win all the by-elections as was happening in Odisha till now. “Dhamnagar bypoll results brought us two things. It filled the minds of lakhs of BJP members with confidence and proved that no party is unbeatable in a bypoll,” said Purohit.

His statements today bore significance, because he made these claims just ahead of BJP declaring him as their candidate for the ensuing Padampur bypoll.

Clearing the air on BJP’s candidate, Purohit himself said that he will be going to file nomination for the bypoll in Padampur . Speaking to reporters, he said, “Thousands of party members are raring to go for the Padampur campaign. I am thankful to the party for deciding to make me its candidate for this bypoll. I will definitely emerge victorious.”

“From Odisha govt’s lackluster attitude to help reimburse insurance money of farmers under PMFBY to the said sympathy wave for deceased MLA Bariha’s family, there are going to be 4-5 major factors that will decide the fate of Padampur. And BJP will overcome all odds to emerge victorious in this election,” Purohit asserted.

BJP MLA, Kusum Tete confirmed Purohit’s candidature too. Speaking to reporters, Tete said, “Purohit was the former MLA of Padampur and last time he lost the seat by a margin of just 5000 votes. He has a strong organizational presence there. He is popular among farmers. So the party has put trust on him to contest the bypoll.”

“Despite being in power for 22 years, the farmers are still neglected. While we take pride in terming the district of Bargarh as Odisha’s rice bowl, the farmers are yet to gain any benefit from it. I will join the rally on the day of nomination filing. Our preparations are on the last legs. And we will win for sure,” she said.

However, the Congress party's vote share in the Constituency is said to be the deciding factor in the bypoll. And the statement by Tara Prasad Bahinipati has fuelled speculations ahead of the polls.

"The mistake committed in Dhamnagar by selling Congress votes to other parties will not be repeated in Padampur. Along with that, if we get financial assistance from the Central Command, we will definitely win this by-election," Bahinipati said.
