Sushil Kumar Lohani, the chief electoral officer (CEO) of Odisha on Friday said the polling in the upcoming bypoll to the Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency will be held at a total of 279 booths including five pink booths exclusively reserved for women voters.

Webcasting and videography will be ensured at 50 percent of all booths during the polling exercise, said Lohani.

A total of 214878 voters will cast their franchise during the by-election including 133 new voters. The list of voters also comprises 3520 dibyangs, said the CEO.

After withdrawal of 3 candidates, the bypoll will witness contest between 11 party and independent aspirants.

Special arrangements will be made to ensure smooth polling of votes in the constituency. The administration will declare holiday in the constituency on the day of the polling.

Arrangements will also be put in place to make sure 3 day holiday period for local voters engaged in profession outside so that they can return and cast their franchise.

The Election Commission of India has announced bypoll to the assembly constituency on May 31. Counting of votes is set for June 3.

The bypoll has been necessitated following death of BJD MLA from the seat and former Speaker Kishore Kumar Mohanty on December 30, 2021.
