Patnagarh MLA Saroj Meher’s brother Pradeep Meher was reportedly assaulted by a group of several BJP workers for allegedly distributing money to influence voters during polling of votes at Kolpada on Thursday.

The BJP workers have alleged that they caught Pradeep red handed while distributing money at Kolpada to influence people to cast votes in favour of the BJD at Ward Number 1,2 and 3.  

Surprisingly, the incident happened in presence of MLA Saroj Meher at the spot. Sources said, BJP workers caught hold of Pradeep, who is in charge of Patnagarh BJD’s IT cell, and thrashed him black and blue. Later, he was rescued by some BJD workers.

Tension ran high in the area following the incident of violence. Patnagarh police immediately reached the location to bring the situation under control. Soon after, workers of both parties also reached the Patnagarh police station. However, no complaints have so far been lodged from any side.

On Wednesday, tension flared up at Behera Sahi under Keonjhar Municipality when BJP activists came under attack allegedly by the BJD supporters for protesting the note for vote allegations against latter. It was alleged that the BJD activists were found distributing Rs 2,000 per voter.

Notably, elections for 106 Municipality, NACs and three Corporations are currently underway in the State.
