A scuffle broke out between the supporters of BJP and ruling BJD in Athagarh area of Cuttack district on Friday.

The fight broke out when the BJP supporters gheraoed Narasinghpur block office as part of their protest over the alleged irregularities in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the State. The saffron party has decided to hold such agitations in front of block offices across the State over the issue.

Today the party workers led by local leader of Badamba-Narasinghpur, Bijay Kumar Dalabehera and Cuttack district general secretary Ram Narayan Mohanty staged a dharna in front of Narasinghpur block to press for their demands. They later gheraoed the block office.

When the agitation was underway, some BJD supporters allegedly hurled stones at the protestors. Soon, a scuffle broke out between the two groups. Police forces deployed at the spot brought the situation under control.

The BJP supporters demanded stringent action against BJD workers involved in the violence.

“BJD workers have made Narasinghpur block office their party office. When we were holding a protest outside the block office, the BJD supporters hurled abuse at us from inside the block office and threw stones,” said Ram Narayan Mohanty.

“We strongly condemn and denounce the incident. We will continue with our demonstration in front of the block office until the BJD goons are not arrested,” he added.

The reactions of BJD on the allegations of BJP could not be obtained.
