The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday prayed for peace for the deceased Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher on the ocassion of Diwali and issued an ultimatum to Odisha government to leave no stone unturned for ensuring justice to the departed soul.

Top leaders of the party including BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda, party Spokesman Sambit Patra, Puri MLA Jayant Sarangi and many other party office bearers and workers turned up in the pilgrim city of Puri to mark the ocassion.

The party congregation gathered near the Mausi Maa Temple and lit diyas in memory of the lady teacher of Mahaling Sunshine School in Kalahandi who was  brutally murdered by the president of the school managing committee Gobinda Sahu recently.

Leaders of the party expressed disatisfaction over the rising trend of crimes against women in the State.

"On the auspicious ocassion of Deepavali, we all lit one more diya in the memory of Mamita. We hope the government to wake from slumber and take discernible action against all those involved in perpertraing the heinous crime of murdering the innocent teacher," said BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra.

Jay Panda came down heavily on Odisha government while making his statements on the alleged role of minister Dibya Shankar in the sensational case.

"There has been an uptick in crimes against women in Odisha for quite some time now but the Mamita murder case has crossed all levels of tolerance," said Panda.

The former Parliamentarian further added that even though the involvement of senior names of Odisha government in the case has come to fore but no one is taking any responsibilty for this diabolical act and neither the government is taking any action against them.

"This is not an isolated case as such instances have already been witnessed in the past. But now it is beyond tolerance," said Panda.
