Leader of Opposition (LoP), Jayanarayan Mishra has been training guns at the BJD-led government over one issue or another. Mishra on Tuesday targeted the government over lawlessness in the State during the demand discussion in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

He alleged the white paper released by the Home Department is silent about the people killed in police encounters. He also pointed out that not a single rupee was spent on the modernisation of the police department. In the department, the command system is not up to the mark as there is complete anarchy and nobody is in a position to listen to anyone, he alleged.

Citing that vigilance cases are pending for years together, he sought answers from the State government.

Referring to Naba Das murder case, he said while the real motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, the police is eager to project prime accused Gopal Das as mentally ill.

At the same time, Congress Legislature party leader Narasingha Mishra also lambasted the government, saying there is ‘jungle raj’ in the state with ‘Naba Das murder case’ being the best example of this lawlessness.

Responding to these allegations, BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra defended his party saying the law and order situation in the state is beyond reproach which is why the people of the State have faith in him (Naveen Patnaik). The Opposition parties' allegation regarding lawlessness in the State is baseless, he said.
