The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s State general secretary from Odisha, Lekhashree Samantasinghar on Sunday hit out at the ruling BJD government for not showing enough enthusiasm on implementing the Modi government’s reform measures.

On the occasion of her party’s celebration of ‘Social Justice Fortnight’, Samantasinghar while addressing a press conference said the country’s growth rate was abysmally low and foreign exchange reserves were next to nothing prior to 2014. The situation has changed for better after Modi government came to the power.

“The Modi government introduced Jan Dhan Yojana, Mudra Loan and Social Security Schemes. The benefits of these yojanas are being transferred directly to the accounts of the beneficiaries. The earlier practice of middlemen siphoning off money has been put to an end,” said Samantasinghar.

“Due to several reforms, the GDP has been over 10 percent. The export has touched 40 million dollars. Facilities are well in place for the people to get their insurances and pension,” said Samantasinghar.

“In case of rice being distributed at Re 1 a kilogram, Modi government is giving a subsidy of Rs 29 on every kilogram of rice while the State’s share is mere Rs 2. All the yojanas launched after Narendra Modi came to the power are meant only for poor people,” added Samantasinghar.

“Since DBTL has put an end to misappropriation of money, the State government is in a state of mental stress,” the BJP leader said wryly.

Without mincing her words, Samantasinghar said the State government should show alacrity in implementing the Modi government’s reform measures so that the needy ones will be benefitted.

In this regard, no reaction from the BJD or the State unit of Congress has been received as yet.
