We have set a target to achieve 51 percent of the total votes and form a double-engine government in Odisha, said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President, Manmohan Samal while interacting with journalists following his arrival from Delhi on Sunday.

“I have met almost all the leaders and Ministers including the Prime Minister. They have assured me that they would extend full support to me. All the top leaders and the Prime Minister have one common aim-to form the government in Odisha. And for this they are ready to provide all support to us,” said Samal.

“People in Odisha are looking for an alternate government. And they are aware of it. To achieve the set goal, our workers should be in active mode; they should toil hard and the pace of our activities should gather speed,” he added.

“We are looking forward to a double-engine government in Odisha. We have set a target to achieve 51 percent of the total votes,” he further added.

When asked about the candidate for the Jharsuguda bypoll, Samal said the name of the candidate will be announced in a day or two.

Responding to Samal’s statements, senior BJD leader Soumya Ranjan Patnaik said, “He has been newly appointed as the party president. Earlier, he served the party in the same capacity. He served as a Minister also. He has seen victory as well as defeat. If he is saying they would get 51 percent of the votes, should I get into a quarrel with him?”

“But, as a competitor, I will say no stone will be left unturned to change the vote percentage from 51 percent to 15 percent, or at least 49 percent,” said Patnaik.
