The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the Chief Minister to expel Odisha Minister of State for Home, Tusharkanti Behera from his cabinet for his controversial statements.

Addressing a press conference at the party office in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, BJP ST/SC Cell President, Bibhu Tarai launched a broadside against the Minister of the State for Home. Tarai said the Minister’s statements are the Chief Minister’s statements and from this, it can be understood that the ruling BJD government is anti-Dalit and anti-Tribal.

“The Minister’s statements are an affront to the Dalits and Tribals of the State. He has no qualifications to be a Minister. The Chief Minister should expel the Minister immediately and tender an apology to the State’s Dalits and Tribals,” said Tarai.

“The BJP will launch an agitation till the Minister is not expelled,” warned Tarai.

“The Minister’s statements indicate the atrocities against the tribals are on the rise. From his statements, it can well be construed that the Minister has admitted that he has no confidence in the Odisha Police and Women’s Commission,” said Tarai.

Minister Behera has stirred the hornet’s nest by saying that police and lawyers are taking commission from the compensation amounts released to the victims in SC & ST atrocity and rape cases.

“In some cases, false narrative is being created. If the victim is an SC or ST, they are becoming a tool. Some lawyers demand money from the victims to ensure that the case is established following an inquiry by SDPO. Usually, the compensation is released to the victim if the allegations are found to be a true following investigation by the SDPO,” Minister Behera had said. At the same time, he had said that his views were personal.
