Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) scuffled with the police when they were stopped by the latter during a march to protest the attack on party MP Aparajita Sarangi in Bhubaneswar, on Friday evening.

As per reports the BJP members were heading towards the PMG square in from the Master Canteen square when the Police tried to stop them midway. Heated arguments with the police turned into a scuffle as the protesters tried to push through the barricades.

BJP Spokesperson, Dillip Mohanty said, “The miscreants not only gheraoed the MP, they also pelted stones at her. What kind of a protest was that? BJP will continue its peaceful protest which is allowed under the Constitution.”

Earlier in the day, Sarangi had lashed out at the BJD leadership especially Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while asking him to take responsibility for the attack incident as the head of the ruling party.

"If CM Naveen did not know about the attack incident, it would be really unfortunate," she said.

Calling upon the police and administration to bring the perpetrators to justice within 24 hours, Sarangi said that she would rake up the case in front of the entire country during the upcoming Winter Session of the Parliament.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sarangi had held a programme with several elderly citizens of Bhubaneswar in presence of her party supporters near Acharya Vihar on Thursday evening. However, a group of miscreants, reportedly BJD workers, protested and pelted stones and eggs at her programme. Soon a scuffle broke out between BJP and BJD workers who resorted to pelting stones and eggs at each other.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested two persons from the Science Park slum in Bhubaneswar in connection with the egg attack on MP Aparajita Sarangi on Thursday. Three cases have been registered at the Shaheed Nagar Police station in connection with the attack on the Bhubaneswar MP.
