Ahead of the Panchayat Elections in Odisha, damages reportedly inflicted on the foundation stone laid for the proposed Ekalavya Adarsh Awasiya Vidyalaya at Jamohanpur under Telkoi block of Keonjhar district has triggered a massive political stir between ruling BJD and Opposition BJP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the construction of building of the school through virtual mode on Monday.

Even though the exact reason behind the incident is unknown, sources said, some miscreants have allegedly damaged the foundation stone.

As per sources, though the names of BJD MP Chandrani Murmu and minister Premananda Nayak were mentioned in the foundation stone, the names of BJP leaders - Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu and local MLA Mohan Majhi were missing from the project plaque.

This apart, as the local Sarpanch was not even invited to the meeting, the development irked the BJP workers sparking a political war between the saffron party workers and the ruling BJD members in the constituency.

Reports said, party workers from both groups faced off with each other and are learnt to have lodged complaints against each other at the local police station.

While the BJD has condemned the incident strongly, the BJP has dubbed the incident as the result of an in internal conflict between BJD workers.

“We strongly condemn the incident. BJP workers are blocking the development work in the area,” said Santosh Biswal, a local BJD leader.

“The tragic incident might have happened due to internal conflict by BJD workers. However, they are targeting the BJP workers for their narrow political motive. Our leaders were not even invited to the function,” rued Manas Nayak, a local BJP leader.
