Biju Janata Dal legislators Soumya Ranjan Patnaik and Bhagirathi Sethi have drawn criticism for criticising the state government.

This time, not members of the Opposition but legislators of the ruling party Soumya Rajan and Bhagirathi targeted the state government.

During Zero Hour, Soumya Ranjan informed the House that the number of women consuming alcohol in the state is rising. “However, the concerned government officials have failed to provide concrete data on the number of women consuming alcohol in Odisha.  He accused the government servants of giving faulty figures on the number of women consuming alcohol in the state and then making them liars in front of public. The officials concerned must provide accurate data and should not try to designate legislators as liars”, he said.

Patnaik also flayed the government for its failure to conserve the Mahanadi river and other rivers in the state and sought details of measures taken by the government for conservation of water resources.

Addressing media outside the Assembly, he said, “Government servants have become egoistic. The state government should put curbs on them.”

Similarly, Anandpur MLA Bhagirathi Sethi came down heavily on the state government for providing poor healthcare services in his locality. He informed the House that healthcare services have gone haywire in his locality. “In the absence of doctors and pharmacists peons are seen administering injections at hospitals. He urged the government to appoint doctors and pharmacists as part measures to provide quality healthcare services to patients.”

Sethi further said “Requesting concerned Ministers and officials is just like giving a tight slap to yourself.”
