BJP workers led by senior party leader and Balasore MP Pratap Sarangi staged a dharna in front of Baliapala police station on Friday demanding immediate arrest of a murder accused.

As per reports, Sekh Rajtulla from Kachuapada village under Baliapala police station in the district was critically injured in a deadly attack on him. Currently, he is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The family members of the victim have lodged a complaint in this connection at Baliapala police station.

As per their allegation, one Sahabuddin Shah had launched the deadly attack on Rajtulla by calling him to a place away from home.

Though police detained Sahabuddin in this connection, the accused was later released. However, it is alleged that police helped him flee from the area.

Throwing their weight behind the family members, the BJP workers led by Sarangi staged the protest to put pressure on police for the immediate arrest of Sahabuddin.

“We demand justice for the poor youth. Some locals of the area have also joined the protest. We are doubtful about the intention of the police. The accused should be arrested immediately,” said Sarangi.

Till the last report came in, the protestors had withdrawn their dharna after Basta Sub-Divisional Police Officer assured them to nab the accused soon.
