In a stern message to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, senior Congress leader, Bhakta Charan Das on Friday warned the State government to face widespread agitation across Kalahandi if Minister Dibyashankar Mishra was not put under arrest by October 30.

Minister Mishra’s involvement in the sensational Mamita Meher murder case has been alleged by the family of the deceased who was done to death by Gobinda Sahu, the president of the Sunshine English Medium School in Mahaling. It was also alleged that Sahu was the go to man for Mishra and he shared a close relationship with the latter.

Das said, “Initially Mamita’s family alleged Mishra’s involvement. Then the media said the same. Even the villagers knew it too. He (Mishra) went many times to the college and school in Mahaling. If he wants to come clean then he should come in front of the people and a make a statement refuting the allegations.”

He added, “His Mishra’s) silence implies that he is guilty. If he considers himself guilty, he being in charge of the Home department should resign from the post as soon as possible,” he said.

Das warned of widespread agitations and said, “If Mishra is not arrested by October 30, then I will go to Kalahandi on November 1 and launch protests across the district.”

The fire of Mamita Meher’s murder probe has reached almost every corner of Odisha. Activists belonging to the BJYM scuffled with the Police when they were stopped from gheraoing the SP office in Berhampur on Friday over demands of the ouster of Mishra, so as to ensure a fair probe in the Mamita Meher murder case.

Similarly, the Democratic Students Organisation (DSO) too demonstrated at the Master Canteen square in Bhubaneswar demanding the resignation of Mishra.
