Peon hacked to death in Berhampur

Berhampur:A peon of a gram panchayat at K.Nuagaon in Odisha's Ganjam district was hacked to death by miscreants, police said today.

The body was identified as Trinath Patra(58) and it was recovered from a canal at the outskirts of the village, police said.

Trinath along with his son Shankar was sleeping in the panchayat office last night. While Shankar went back home in the morning, his father was sleeping in the panchayat office.

Family members started searching for Patra when he did not return home for a long time and found his body in the canal, police said.

The reason behind thethe murder was yet to be ascertained and efforts are on to identify the killers, said inspector in-charge of K.Nuagaon police station Bhabani Shankar Khuntia.

The police started an investigation. Sniffer dog squad was deployed and forrensic team were deployed when police started an investigation.
