Why NSA on YouTuber Manish Kashyap? Netizens fume, supports pour in

Weeks after he was arrested by Bihar Police, popular YouTuber and journalist Manish Kashyap, has been detained under the National Security Act (NSA), news agency PTI reported.

On the other hand, a Madurai district court extended his judicial custody till April 19. Kashayp, who was arrested by Bihar Police’s economic offences unit (EOU) after he surrendered at Jagdishpur police station on March 18, was brought from Bihar to Tamil Nadu on transit remand.

However, his arrest has created uproar on social media with netizens coming out in his support and questioning his arrest and termed it as ‘illegal’ detention under the National Security Act (NSA). Many took to social media to vent out their anger on the alleged ‘hounding’ of the popular YouTuber and journalist.

“YouTuber Manish Kashyap has been booked under NSA by Tamil Nadu Police for covering the plight of Bihar workers in the state while Mohammad Zubair is roaming freely despite having POCSO and many cases against him. NSA on the bear is the need of the hour,” wrote a Twitter user.

“He is not a member of Tukde Tukde Gang, neither PFI or Islamic Front, nor Pakistan-based terror organization. However, Tamil Nadu Police has slapped NSA on him,” wrote another user.

A third person wrote, “Satya pareshan ho sakta hai parajit nahin, ek din ayega jab Manish Kashyap ki jeet hogi.”

Manish Kashyap was detained by Bihar police, whose property was seized after his detention. After more than a week of questioning, TN police are now taking him to Tamilnadu for further questioning.

Despite dismayed with some comments made in SC, I wish Manish Kashyap gets relief as he is clearly being hounded as part of political upmanship and not for sake of some pursuit of 'truth'. Hope the court really shows it’s the 'North Star' that CJI Chandrachud imagined it to be.
