A youth suffered serious injuries after reportedly being attacked by a leopard attack in Nuapada district on Saturday evening. However, he somehow managed to escape from the big cat's fatal attack.

The victim has been identified as Senapati Majhi from of Hirapur village under Sinapalli forest range. He has been admitted to Nuapada hospital in a critical condition following the incident.

The incident has unleashed terror in the minds of villagers and others in the area.

Upon being informed, the forest department officials have reached the spot and started an investigation.

As per reports, Senapati had gone to a forest area on the outskirts of the village to attend to nature’s call in the evening. While he was cleaning himself on a nearby river, the leopard pounced on him. The big cat had grabbed Senapati’s hand. However, Senapati somehow managed to get himself free from its jaws and ran for his life.

Local people ran for Senapati’s rescue after hearing his loud cry. They immediately rushed the critically injured youth to community health centre (CHC) at Sinapalli in an ambulance. Later he was shifted to Nuapada hospital for better and advance treatment.

A team of forest officials are now camping in the village to track and capture the leopard. They are also creating awareness among the people on how to be cautious and escape from wild cat’s attack.
