Tension at Jajpur DHH
A pall of gloom descended on Bansakantha village under Dharmasala block after a young man, admitted to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), died due to allegedly administration of wrong injection on Tuesday.
The shocking incident has sparked grief among family members and raised questions over medical negligence in government-run hospitals. The deceased has been identified as Bharat Das.
According to reports, the deceased had been admitted to Jajpur DHH just a day earlier for treatment. On the morning of the incident, he was reportedly in good health. Family members said he had tea, chatted with attendants, and even helped serve breakfast to fellow patients, giving them hope of his recovery.
Tragedy struck when a nurse administered an injection. Within minutes, Bharat began convulsing and collapsed. Despite frantic efforts to revive him, he succumbed, leaving his family in disbelief.
Bharat’s mother, who was present at his bedside, alleged that her son’s death was caused by a wrong injection. The grieving family has demanded immediate action against those responsible.
Reacting to the allegations, Jajpur DHH Additional Medical Officer (ADMO) confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered. To ensure transparency, a team of professors from SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, will be part of the probe.
This case has amplified concerns about patients’ safety in Odisha’s healthcare system, coming close on the heels of a similar tragedy in Badamba Community Health Centre (CHC) in Cuttack district.
On that occasion, Rajesh Behera of Kharoda village, who had been suffering from fever, died moments after being given an injection. His family alleged medical negligence, claiming the nurse had either administered a wrong injection or used substandard medicine.
