A youth, detained by the Chowdwar Excise department officials, reportedly died on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Sarata Pradhan from Mahishalanda village.

As per reports, Excise officials raided the village on Tuesday evening after getting a tip-off from a reliable source. Pradhan was caught red-handed for selling liquor in the area. Eighty litres of liquor was also seized from his possession and he was detained.

The Excise officials took him to custody and brought him to the Choudwar Cuttack Office. He was to be forwarded to the Court today. Pradhan fell ill in the custody and he was subsequently admitted to SCB Medical College and hospital. However, doctors declared him brought dead.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s brother alleged that the Excise officials have beaten him to death. As per his brother’s allegation, Sarata was healthy and he had no health problems. He has been thrashed mercilessly to death.

On the other hand, the Excise department said that Pradhan was ill and he had not taken medicine. He was shifted to the medical immediately when his health condition deteriorated. However, he suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away.
