Youth cheats death after miscreants open fire; victim seeks refuge in Odisha MLA’s house

A youth returning from gym escaped death by a whisker after some unidentified miscreants opened fire at him at Balia under Sahadevkhunta police limits in Balasore district on Wednesday.

The youth, identified as Manoranjan Bindhani has sustained minor injury on his face after a bullet fired by the miscreants narrowly missed his face. As per initial reports, four bike-borne miscreants intercepted Manoranjan when he was returning from a gym. Soon the miscreants pulled out a gun and fired at him.

In a bid to save his life, Manoranjan started running from the spot and entered the house of Remuna MLA Gobinda Chandra Das.

“I was near my house and hearing grievances of people when the youth came rushing and informed me about the incident. I then called police officials and informed them. I have also spoken to the SP and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved. It appears that the incident could be over some group dispute,” said the MLA.

Dr Rajesh Kumar of Balasore District Headquarters Hospital said, “I have advised the youth to consult advance opinion from surgery department. His condition is stable.” Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the matter.
