There are several provisions under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 that plays a crucial role in enforcing road discipline and safety. However, most of the people seem unaware about the provisions and penalties.

For example, do you that you can be fined for honking unnecessarily and also in prohibited areas?

Under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, the penalty for first offence is Rs 1000. Similarly, a violator can be slapped with a fine of Rs 2000 for the second and subsequent offence.

Another area of concern for the commuters is rash or dangerous driving on roads. Dangerous driving makes a person vulnerable to accidents and liable to penalty and even imprisonment on repeated offence.

Under the Act, there is a provision of imprisonment of 6 months to 1 year or fine between Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 for the first offence. Similarly, within 3 years from first offence, there is a provision for imprisonment up to 2 years and or fine of Rs 10,000.
