Work dashboard, automation systems: Odisha is transforming digital governance, says Chief Secy
The Odisha government is accelerating its digital transformation efforts through advanced data governance, automation systems, and transparency-focused initiatives, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja stated recently.
Speaking at the Unlocking the Power of Data Exchange for Smart Governance forum at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, he highlighted the state’s commitment to building a resilient data ecosystem that enhances decision-making and efficiency.
Expansion of OSWAS to Urban Local Bodies
A key focus of Odisha’s digital governance push is the Odisha State Workflow Automation System (OSWAS), which will integrate all urban local bodies (ULBs), including municipal corporations, by April 1, 2025.
This initiative, managed by the Odisha Computer Application Center (OCAC), aims to streamline municipal administration and reduce paperwork through digitization.
Local bodies have been directed to procure the necessary hardware and develop network infrastructure to ensure smooth integration.
Further, OSWAS, already operational in government offices, includes built-in accountability measures, setting strict deadlines for official responses and automatic escalation protocols for delays.
Work Passbook and Dashboard for Transparency
To further improve transparency and efficiency in public works, the government is introducing a work passbook and an expanded work dashboard.
Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan had explained in February that the work passbook will provide real-time updates on projects, including estimated costs and progress, accessible to the public on the department’s website.
The work dashboard, currently in limited use, will consolidate project data for comprehensive monitoring by the Chief Minister and officials.
Ensuring Accountability and Efficiency
These digital initiatives are expected to ensure greater transparency, timely project completion, and enhanced government accountability.
Initially implemented in the Public Works Department (PWD), they will be expanded to other engineering departments and the Panchayati Raj Department, marking a significant step toward efficient, paperless, and accountable administration.
