Woman, son electrocuted after coming in contact with broken service wire in Balasore

A live service wire near Tilottama’s home was broken and had fallen on an iron rod charging it with electricity. Tilottama got electrocuted when she touched the iron rod without knowing that it was charged with a broken service wire.

At a time when Odisha is reeling under severe power outage, a woman and her son lost their lives after coming in contact with a broken service wire near their house at Nahula village under Balasore’s Khaira block on Saturday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Tilottama Das and her son Ramachandra Das.

As per reports, a live service wire near Tilottama’s home was broken and had fallen on an iron rod charging it with electricity. Tilottama got electrocuted when she touched the iron rod without knowing that it was charged with a broken service wire.

When she cried for help, her son, Ramachandra came running to help her but got electrocuted as well. Tilottama’s daughter called the villagers following which they rushed the mother-son duo to the nearby Khaira hospital for treatment where the doctors pronounced them dead.

The police have sent the bodies for autopsy to Soro Hospital.

It is pertinent to mention here that the area had witnessed a power outage for almost two days following a nor'wester. The power was restored only last night (Friday).

No official statement on the broken service wire was available from the power distribution company.
