A quarrel broke out between two brothers on Wednesday as they traded accusations against each other following the death of their mother.

One of the siblings accused the other of killing their mother, disrupting the funeral for about 30 hours.

The incident took place in Simulia village under Balang Panchayat in the Soro area of Balasore district.

The deceased has been identified as Malati Barik (90).

As per sources, the deceased's two sons -Nandakishor Barik and Govind Barik- were living separately following a dispute. The woman was living with Govind (eldest son).

On Wednesday, Malati fell from the bathroom and sustained critical injuries. Soon, Govind along with his wife rushed her to Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) where the doctors declared her brought dead.

After learning about the demise, Nandakishor alleged that his brother (Govinda) murdered their mother. Nandakishor lodged a written complaint against Govind at Soro police station.

The police swung into action as per the written complaint and seized the body. Due to the dispute between the brothers, an autopsy has not been conducted on the body even after 30 hours of death and it is lying in the hospital.

The police have initiated a further probe into the matter.
