Palpable tension gripped Titilagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital following the death of a woman patient over alleged medical negligence on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Binodini, wife of Bimal Chhatar of Sihini village in Bolangir district.

The family members alleged that Binodini died just five minutes after a doctor administered an injection to her. It is pertinent to mention here that the family members had earlier admitted Binodini, who was pregnant, at the Mother and Child Hospital on February 2, 2024. The family was told that Binodini had given birth to a stillborn child the next day and she was again admitted to the hospital after she developed some health issues.

Today, a doctor, who was on duty, administered an injection to her at around 6 am. However, Binodini died after 5 minutes.

“My wife was supposed to be discharged from the hospital. She was given an injection and she died soon after. We suspect that the injection was spurious or there was something wrong in it,” alleged the deceased's husband Bimal Chhatar.

Sub-Divisional Medical Officer said, “Only after post-mortem, we can say about the exact reason behind the death whether it was due to medicine, surgery or other reasons."

Following the tension at the hospital, Titilagarh SDPO rushed to the spot and held a discussion with the medical authorities and the family members of the deceased.

“We have started an investigation and the body has been sent for post-mortem. Necessary action will be taken based on the reports,” said Titilagarh SDPO.
