Woman marries husband’s cousin in front of family members in Odisha’s Sonepur

In an unusual turn of events, a woman married her brother-in-law right in front of her husband in Odisha. The couple, who had eloped, was brought to the police station where they were married off in front of her husband.

The bizarre incident has been reported from Subalaya village under Birmaharajpur police limits of Sonepur district.

According to sources, 22-year-old Jhilli Pradhan from a village in Angul district had married Madhab Pradhan three years ago.

Everything was going on well for the couple until Madhab’s cousin Parameswar started visiting their house. Without Madhab’s knowledge, Parameswar developed an illicit relationship with Jhilli. The duo continued to meet each other in the absence of Madhab.

Things took an ugly turn after their love story was known by family members and the villagers. Later, the couple eloped together and were hiding since last week. Based on a complaint filed by Madhab, police rescued the two and brought them to the station where they insisted on getting married.

Despite repeated attempts by their respective family members, the duo insisted on getting married to each other. After failed attempts by family members to make the duo understand, the two were married off inside the police station in the presence of senior police officials.

The bizarre wedding has become the talk of the town. However, no comments could be obtained from Madhab and his family members in this regard.
