Woman kills mother-in-law for switching on light in Odisha’s Cuttack

Police arrested a woman on the charges of killing her mother-in-law for switching on light in their house in Madhupur area under Baranga police limits in Cuttack district. 

Though incident took place on December 5, the accused identified as Saraswati Sahoo was arrested on Saturday. According to police, Saraswati had an altercation with her mother-in-law Sabitri Sahoo when the latter wanted to keep the light on in her house.

Enraged, Saraswati brutally attacked Sabitri with an iron rod, leaving her dead. 

On being informed, the police reached the spot and launched an investigation. 

Today, police arrested Saraswati and seized the iron rod used in the crime. The accused confessed her crime during interrogation. 

Additional DCP Anil Kumar Mishra said, “The verbal fight between Saraswati and Sabirti broke out when the former wanted the room’s light to be switched off, but the latter refused to do so. Saraswati flew into a range and killed her mother-in-law by attacking her with an iron rod. She then washed the blood stains on her saree and hid the iron rod. Today she was arrested.”
