Alleged family feud took an ugly turn after a woman jumped into Kharasrota river with nine-month-old daughter in front her husband at Aul area in Kendrapara on Friday.

However, both the mother and daughter were rescued by the local residents following the incident. They were immediately rushed to the Aul Community Health Centre. After primary treatment, they were later shifted to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital.

As per reports, the woman has got married at Khandol village under Aul police station in the district. Some dispute was going on in their family for the past some days. 

Today, the woman was going to her father’s house along with her husband and daughter in an auto rickshaw. However, the couple started quarreling on the way and the woman repeatedly asked to stop the vehicle. 

When the vehicle didn’t stop, she jumped into the river along with her daughter from Gadadadi bridge near Aul.

However, seeing the mother and the daughter drowning in the river, local people swung into action and rescued the duo with the help of a boat. The husband also jumped into the river in a bid to rescue his wife and daughter.

“After watching the woman and her daughter drowning in the river, we rushed to the spot with the help of a boat and rescued all the family members. Then we rushed them to the hospital for treatment,” said Amar Biswal, a local resident.

The condition of the child and her mother is stated to be stable now after treatment.

“The condition of the child is stable now. After primary treatment, she has been referred to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital,” said Aul Community Health Centre Medical Officer Rajat Kumar Patra.
