Family members of the deceased outside the hospital
In yet another suspected case of medical negligence by an unlicensed practitioner, a woman in Bolangir has died allegedly after being administered the wrong injection. The deceased has been identified as Bhawani Puta of Mahulpati village under Turekela police limits.
According to reports, her family has accused a local quack, Ranjit Meher of Larki village, of administering an injection that allegedly worsened her condition, rendering her unconscious. Following this, she was rushed to the Turekela Medical Centre, where doctors declared her dead.
A formal written complaint has been filed by the victim’s family at Turekela Police Station. However, police have not yet issued any official statement regarding the investigation or potential charges.
Reports added that following the incident, Meher has allegedly gone into hiding.
Initial reports indicate that Bhawani was suffering from pain in her limbs when the family sought help from the local quack. It is alleged that the injection given by Meher led to a rapid deterioration in her condition.
“My wife had a leg pain, and we went to a local clinic where Ranjit Meher administered her an injection. After returning home, she was fine but complained of pain at the spot of the injection. Later, she began to shiver and fell unconscious. We then rushed her to the hospital, but she passed away,” said Dingar Puta, husband of the deceased.
It is worth noting that the exact cause of death awaits medical verification.
However, this is not the first such case in the region. Similar incidents of fatal outcomes due to wrong injections administered by quacks have been reported earlier in Sindhekela and Muribahal police station areas, where suspects were later arrested.
As of Saturday, local police had not issued any official confirmation or initiated public communication about the status of the case.
