Woman delivers baby girl inside running bus in Odisha
An expecting mother went into labour pain inside a running bus and delivered a baby girl with the help of the passengers and two doctors present in the vehicle. Both, the mother and the newborn girl are safe and healthy.
The incident happened when the pregnant woman was on her way to Nabarangpur from Paralakhemundi. She suddenly went into labour mid-way at Kashinagar. Alerted to her distress, two doctors Arun Nayak and Sunita Mallick present at the vehicle swiftly sprang into action and helped her deliver the baby safely.
Following the safe delivery, the bus dropped the mother and her newborn to Gunupur sub-divisional hospital before resuming its journey. All the passengers were equally supportive and selfless in giving proper treatment to the doctors and the mother and her newborn.
“Luckily, we were sitting in the back seat. I called my doctor friend who is a gynaecologist who advised us to take her to the nearest hospital. Fortunately, Dr. Sunita Mallick was with us and she helped the patient and the newborn in the bus,” said Dr. Arun Nayak.
“She underwent labour pain as soon as the bus left Paralakhemundi. The passengers and the bus employees and everyone were co-operative with us. She is short height and we feared of anemia. However, we managed to deliver the baby safely in the bus and brought them soon to Gunupur hospital,” informed Dr. Sunita Mallick.
When contacted Ramesh Sahu, Superintendent, Gunupur sub-divisional hospital, said, “The bus was en route to Nabarangpur from Paralakhemundi when the woman experienced labour pain. She delivered a baby girl and was brought to Gunupur Hospital. Both the mother and the newborn baby are healthy.”
