The victim girl is yet to come out of the trauma. However, her mother has gathered courage and revealed about the sexual assault following her husband’s death.

According to sources, the family hails from a village in Jharkhand. After her husband’s death, the woman lived with her three daughters and a son. However, a youth had started to torture the woman and her daughters.

The accused rapist is said to be the woman’s brother-in-law. The matter came to light after the victim woman narrated her ordeal during counseling at the ‘Astha Gruha’ today.

“The woman’s brother-in-law had been raping the woman and her daughter since the death of her husband,” revealed Astha Gruha co-ordinator Snehalata Patel.

He reportedly raped them and inflicted mental and physical torture on them. Unable to bear the torture, the mother-daughter duo fled the village and managed to reach Odisha.

After being rescued by Sundargarh BJP MLA Kusum Tete, the two are being provided with proper treatment and a probe has also been launched in this regard.

The two women, aged about 45 and 27, were spotted walking along College Road, one of the busiest roads in Sundargarh, with no clothes on. They seemed to be tired and mentally stressed. Sundargarh MLA Kusum Tete, who was going to attend a demonstration, spotted them and provided shawls kept in her car.

On being informed, a police team and a medical team reached the spot. They were subsequently then taken to ‘Astha Gruha’, a facility meant for mentally ill people.

Speaking on the heinous incident, social activist, Namrata Chadha said, “At a time when we have reached the Moon, incidents like this or the Ujjain rape is a blot to humanity. Mostly the downtrodden and backward go through such brutal happenings for various reasons. Women and children are the soft targets mostly due to politics, riots, or war.”

“More shocking was that no one offered help to the mother-daughter duo even as they were roaming naked. This shows how inhumane we have become as a society. Instead of offering help, people were busy clicking their pictures and taking videos. Although we claim to have become modern and use social media sites, we lost humanity inside us. Action should be taken against those who have recorded both the victims,” she added.

Sundargarh SP Pratyush Dibakar said, “We know the two women are from Jharkhand. But their mental condition is cuurently in such a state that they are unable to state clearly what all had happened to them. The survivor did not say anything about sexual assault. What exactly happened to them will be clear only after they become normal.”

Speaking on the mental condition of the survivors, Psychiatrist Samrat Kar observed that as the do has been allegedly assaulted sexually for multiple times, their condition has become traumatic. It will take time for them to come out this phase through medication and counselling, he added.
