Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi

A day after Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi was allegedly opposed while on her way to a meeting in the city, the parliamentarian on Tuesday asked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik how the state government would compensate her lost time.

In a letter to the CM, the IAS-turned-politician claimed that she was detained for two hours by miscreants in Bhubaneswar on Monday evening. Stating her time as equally valuable as CM Naveen Patnaik’s, she asked whether the CM’s carcade could be stopped for even five minutes.

“I work very hard for the welfare of the people of Bhubaneswar Parliamentary Constituency. I try to establish connect with as many residents as possible and, for that matter, I am required to hold small meetings in different parts of the Constituency. I had gone today to ward no-43 on invitation of residents to hold a meeting when some miscreants/ antisocial elements stopped my car and prevented me from proceeding to the meeting spot,” Sarangi wrote.

“I sat in the car waiting for the police to control the situation for 2 hours. I must mention here that I had been moving in my Constituency since 7AM today and was almost without food. Besides, more than 200 people were waiting in my office for public grievance during the time I was detained. This speaks of malicious intent on part of the State Government. Two hours of my time was wasted and there was complete disruption in my office because of hooliganism,” she alleged.

The MP said she expects an answer to her query.

"I am deeply disturbed because of the indifference of the State Government towards ensuring my security," she concluded.

According to sources, the residents of Buddheswari Colony had invited the Parliamentarian to their area for a meeting. While going to the colony, some women opposed her, leading to a scuffle-like situation.

“Keeping the Buddheswari Colony residents’ request, Madam was going to their colony. When she was on her way, some women came from nowhere and stopped her vehicle. They all have been given Rs 500 each to create disturbance,” said a woman supporter of the Parliamentarian.
