Arrested accused in road rage incident in Bhubaneswar
Chandaka Police on Saturday arrested as many as seven ‘road romeos’ for the road rage and assault incident involving the Army Major and his fiancée in Bhubaneswar on the night of September 15.
All the miscreants have been forwarded to court.
As many as 11 mobile phones and a vehicle were also seized, informed Additional DCP, Krushna Prasad Das.
“A woman had a heated exchange of words with some students at Sundarpur square following which the lady was assaulted. A case in this connection has been registered at Chandaka Police Station. We have been investigating the incident currently. Seven persons have been arrested in this connection. A vehicle has been recovered and 11 mobile phones have been seized. A video and an audio clip have also been found which is currently being investigated. All the arrested persons will be forwarded to court,” said Das.
However, the arrested accused refuted charges of assault.
“The Major and his fiancee were in an inebriated condition. They made obscene gestures by showing their middle fingers and hurled abuses at us. We just told them not to do it and pull up their vehicle. We have not beaten them. We don’t know who thrashed them. The woman has already admitted it and we don’t have any kind of enmity against them,” said an arrested miscreant.
“We don’t have any fault and we are innocent,” said another arrested miscreant.
“The investigation is currently underway and I can’t say anything on the matter,” said Chandaka IIC.
A day before, Chandaka police had detained the seven miscreants in connection with the incident.
As per the complaint, some miscreants intercepted the vehicle of the Indian Army officer while he and his fiancée were returning home after closing the latter’s restaurant.
