Wayanad landslide | Mortal remains of Dr Bishnu Prasad Chinara reach Odisha; last rites at Puri Swargadwar

The mortal remains of Dr Bishnu Prasad Chinara, a victim of the Wayanad landslide, reached Choudwar, Odisha. He and his companions were on a tour in Kerala when tragedy struck. The body was transported through joint efforts by the Odisha and Kerala governments.

Family members, relatives and friends broke into tears as the hearse carrying the mortal remains of Wayanad landslide victim Dr Bishnu Prasad Chinara reached the Housing Board Colony in Choudwar on Saturday night. 

Dr Chinara, his wife Priyadarshini Pal, Dr Swadheen Panda and his wife Swikruti Mahapatra had gone to Kerala on a seven-day tour programme. On July 28, they reached Wayanad, unaware of what was in store for them.

In the devastating landslides, Dr Chinara lost his life. With the joint efforts of the Odisha Government and its counterparts in Kerala, his body was sent to Odisha by road. After reaching Bhubaneswar, the mortal remains were kept at Vani Vihar and the hospital where he was working for the public to pay their last respects. Then the hearse proceeded to Housing Board Colony, Choudwar.

A sea of crowd turned up to offer their last tributes to Dr Chinara. From there, the hearse went to Swargadwar in Puri, where the last rites of Dr Chinara will be performed. 

On the other hand, Dr Chinara’s wife Priyadarshini is returning to Odisha after her discharge from Dr Moopen's Medical College. 

While Swikruti Mahapatra is still undergoing treatment, her husband Dr Swadheen Panda is still missing.
