A festive celebration turned violent in Nayagarh district on Sunday night when a dispute over DJ music during Ganesh idol immersion escalated into a clash between two villages, leaving one person dead and over ten injured. The incident took place at Karadapalli village under the jurisdiction of Fatehgarh police station.
The deceased has been identified as Harihar Swain, a resident of Karadapalli. According to reports, the violence erupted after a verbal altercation between locals from Pathapur and Karadapalli during the immersion procession, which quickly escalated into a group clash, turning the night of festivity into one of chaos and tragedy.
Elderly Man Declared Dead
During the scuffle, Harihar Swain sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Bhapur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The youths who had taken him to the hospital reportedly fled the scene soon after.
Meanwhile, several individuals from Pathapur village allegedly involved in the clash, have also deserted their homes. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who are demanding swift action and justice for the death of the elderly man.
Police Intervention
Fatehgarh police reached the village and brought the situation under control. The police have initiated an investigation. At the time of reporting, no arrests were made in connection with the case.
