Threatening to stall healthcare service at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science And Research (VIMSAR), the junior doctors at the institute have warned to go on a cease-work strike over pending stipend and other irregularities.

The doctors threatened to launch the strike if their demands were not met by March 13.

The junior doctors alleged large-scale financial irregularities in the institute resulting in non-payment of their stipends for months.

As per reports, the doctors had gheraoed the institute Dean, Professor Jayashree Dora on Thursday to press for their demands. But despite a long discussion, the deadlock continues. They wore black badges on their hands and blamed the Dean for their plight.

They submitted a memorandum to the VIMSAR Director on a seven-point charter of demands.

“Though VIMSAR has been granted autonomous status, it is yet to get complete autonomy. Our institute cannot conduct an examination forcing us to appear under Sambalpur University. It would be much easier and transparent if the exam is conducted by our institute,” said a protesting doctor.

Asked about the allegations and protest, Dean Jayashree Dora said, “We are currently conducting the exam under Sambalpur University. But we are going to do the same in our institute very soon. VIMSAR needs to be de-affiliated from Sambalpur University. Subsequently, permission is needed from the NMC. Then only we can conduct the exam here.”

“It is taking time for all that process. But we will soon complete all the formalities and conduct the exams here,” Dora said.
