The residents of Jiridamali on Wednesday staged a protest in front of RaghunathJew High School in Kamakhyanagar block of Dhenkanal district in protest against the alleged misappropriation of funds by the school headmaster.
The villagers accused the headmaster of embezzling funds from the school and indulging in fraudulent activities related to rice supplies.
It was alleged that a substantial portion of the school funds has been misappropriated, leading to discontent among the local residents.
“The headmaster has embezzled the school fund. Even students have not got their stipend,” alleges a woman protestor, adding “The condition of the school building is also not good.”
The protestors alleged that the headmaster has pushed the future of their children into darkness.
“From 2005, when the headmaster has taken charge, he had weakened the infrastructure. He is charging Rs 300 to Rs 5,000 to issue school leaving certificate,” alleged another protestor.
The villagers claimed that they had brought the issue to the attention of Block Education Officer (BEO), District Education Officer (DEO), Sub-Collector and Collector, but in vain.
“In 2017, we had created a management committee, but the headmaster didn’t approve that. Several developmental schemes have been withheld, as a result, many guardians have taken their wards to other schools,” said Chittaranjan Sethi, the Village Committee President.
He added, "This is the third time we are lodging the complaint against the headmaster. He was seen sleeping during school period wearing a towel.”
The villagers threatened to continue their stir if their demands were not met.
