 A day after the Odisha government ordered compulsory retirement of Prasant Rout, the Vigilance officials on Wednesday took the former additional Sub-Collector of Nabarangpur district on a five-day remand for further investigation and interrogation in the case.

The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance had ordered jail custody of Rout till July 7, 2023. Rout was earlier produced before the Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Sundargarh for possessing disproportionate assets (DA) worth Rs 5,21,09,659 which is 506 per cent of his known sources of income.

The assets were detected by the Odisha Vigilance following searches conducted at nine locations on June 23. The Vigilance sleuths were taken aback after they recovered cash to the tune of over Rs 3 crore during the raid.

Besides, Rout has spent Rs 87 lakh on medical education of his daughter and educational expenditure of his son.

Bank and Insurance deposits over Rs.92.34 Lakhs (including Rs.38.64 lakhs deposits in 2 benami accounts).

Gold and silver jewellery and household articles worth over Rs 27.27 lakh.

Total cash Rs 3,02,30,800.
