The Vigilance sleuths nabbed Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Bonth Police Station in Bhadrak while he was accepting Rs 10,000 bribe on police station premises on Saturday.

According to Vigilance sources, Parida was accepting a bribe of Rs.10,000 from a complainant to help him and his mother in a land dispute case, through a middleman identified as Amareswar Nayak.

Both Parida and Nayak were apprehended by the anti-corruption agency on bribery charges, sources informed.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against Parida and further investigation into the matter is on.

It is worthwhile to mention here that several police officials have recently landed in Vigilance net on bribery charges.

On July 21, the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Harbhanga Police Station, Pushpalata Routray was caught by Vigilance sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to release some vehicles of persons engaged in sand quarrying.

Similarly, on July 19, the Inspector-In-Charge and an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Chandipur Police Station in Balasore were nabbed by Vigilance while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a liquor trader.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Saheed Nagar Police Station under Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) was caught red-handed by vigilance sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 on July 13.
